Coating weight gauges.

X-ray coating weight measurement for galvanizing, Galvalume, electrolytic tinning and aluminizing lines. Measure what you are actually laying down, and stop paying for zinc you did not need to apply.

How it works

X-ray fluorescence, read off the substrate.

The system directs an X-ray beam into the coated material at an energy level sufficient to fluoresce the steel substrate underneath the coating. By detecting and measuring the intensity of the backscattered radiation, the thickness of the coating is determined to a high degree of accuracy.

The gauge measures various metallic coatings including zinc, tin, aluminium and other hot metal coatings.

The hardware

Dual digital heads, fibre optic communications.

Next-generation digital heads

Dual heads, light enough to mount on existing frames without redesigning the structure around them.

Fibre optic communications

Fibre between heads and cabinet, which keeps signal integrity in electrically noisy mill environments.

Customisable software

Communications, HMI and other software characteristics are configured to your requirements, not ours.

Closed-loop ready

Feeds air knife and coating control so the line can correct itself rather than waiting on lab samples.

Two platforms

One measurement system, two control platforms.

PLC-based, in-line

Perfecta Coating Weight Gauge

In-line coating weight measurement running on the mill PLC, feeding the coating control loop in real time.

PC-based, in-line

Accura Coating Weight Gauge

The same in-line coating weight gauge as the Perfecta, with PC-based controls in place of the mill PLC.

Global Gauge has been manufacturing X-ray based gauges for the steel and other metals industries for over twenty years. In coating applications the value is direct: measuring accurately is what lets a line reduce over-coating rather than guess at it.

Stop over-coating.

Tell us the line and the coating. We will show you what the measurement would look like on your process.
